The applied microstructures that consist of a structured thin-film coating can be compared to a crosshair. It can therefore be laid upon a substrate, most often an optical-quality glass, to obtain the desired effect, such as anti-reflection or others. This is of particular importance in the areas of application such as medical instruments like endoscopes, measuring instruments, telescopes and analytical equipment.
